Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Careem have officially launched the bike-sharing service in the region, providing 780 pedal-assisted bikes through 78 stations across Dubai under the project’s phase 1.
Bikes are now available to hire across different communities in Dubai and can be hired via the Careem Bike mobile application.
Users need to create an account on the Careem Bike app and link it to a bank card for payment, and can select from multiple payment options. Prices are set at Dhs 20 for one day, Dhs 50 for a weekly membership, Dhs 75 for a monthly and Dhs 420 for a yearly membership. Users can use the bikes many times however with no single trip exceeding 60 minutes anytime.
The app will also assist users on whether the nearest dock has bikes available or not, and if available, how many.
To unlock the bicycle, a user simply needs to scan the QR code on the bicycle and enter a five-digit code from the app into the station.
