A Dubai police initiative launched earlier this year to give discounts to motorists on traffic fines could expand to all other emirates of the UAE.
The scheme which was introduced on 6 February this year, gives motorist 25% off discounts on their accumulated traffic fines if they do not commit any offence for three months, 50% discounts on going offence free for six months, 75% for driving without breaking any rules for nine months and full discount, if a motorist does not break any rules for one full year.
Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of the UAE Federal Traffic Council and Assistant Commander-in-chief of Operations, said the initiative will be presented to the council who will decide on whether to adopt it nationally.
“After one year of the initiative [February 2020], the council will discuss and if results were successful then we will recommend it to the Ministry of Interior in a step to approve it throughout the entire UAE,” says Saif Al Zafein.
