The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport has been making moves to prevent illegal parking. 200 cars have been impounded over the past few days from a sand lot opposite the twofour54 complex. The lot had previously been free for employees but as of 7 September, it was announced that all public spaces in Abu Dhabi will be paid. From this date, motorists were allowed three-weeks to purchase a parking permit and acknowledge the new regulations.
Motorists were first issued notices on their windshields explaining the course of action - including fines and towing, and were finally towed and fined upon ignoring the notices.
