Video: Dubai’s next mega project unveiled by Sheikh Mohammed

Starting from June Dubai’s brand-new mega project will break ground; the result will be two new islands on either side of the Burj Al Arab. The new tourist destination named 'Marsa Al Arab', is set to add an extra 2.2km of beach front to the Jumeirah area of the city by late 2020.

The much-anticipated launch was announced on Sunday by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Costing a total of Dhs 6.3 billion, the new tourist destination will be built across four million square feet with one island dedicated to entertainment and family tourism, while the other will comprise of an exclusive luxury resort. The aim of the project is to increase family tourism in Dubai; provide supporting foundations to host Expo 2020 Dubai, as well as reinforce Jumeirah Group's leading position locally and globally.

The ambitious new project will relocate the Wild Wadi Waterpark closer to the beach and will see it increase to twice its current size. The addition of the Marine Park, a marine life educational and entertainment centre will include a 1,000-seat theatre, with shows that showcase various elements of marine life, allowing visitors to interact with exotic aquatic animals and fish. It will also house 140 luxury villas (operated by Jumeirah Group) on a private island, which offer its residents complete privacy  and includes a marina and a helipad located on the left of Burj Al Arab Jumeirah. It will also offer 300 sea-front residential apartments in the heart of the development.
