Places of worship in Dubai have temporarily suspended all masses and activities until further notice. Several churches across the UAE have temporarily suspended in-person services from Friday, 3 April, following official directives issued by the Community Development Authority in Dubai.

The decision comes in the interest of public safety and community well-being. The announcements were made as worshippers prepared to observe Good Friday and Easter.

Several churches in Dubai confirmed that services would be cancelled until further notice and would be moved online. St Mary’s Catholic Church in Oud Metha said its Good Friday services would be held virtually via the church’s Youtube channel, while St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Jebel Ali also announced the suspension of masses for the time being. Worshippers were advised not to visit church premises during this period.

Other congregations have also introduced similar arrangements. The Mar Thoma Parish in Jebel Ali has moved all services virtually, with timing and access details to be shared with members. St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral also shifted all services, including Good Friday observances, to online platforms while keeping service timings unchanged.

Our Lady of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Dubai has also moved its services online ahead of their Easter celebrations, which start this weekend, running over the course of the coming week.

Meanwhile, St. Mina Coptic Orthodox Church in Jebel Ali cancelled its Friday liturgy on 3 April along with all other services and activities until further notice.

These measures reflect a broader effort by churches across the country to respond to the latest guidance while continuing religious observances through remote participation where possible.

The development comes ahead of Easter celebrations, which start this weekend.
