UAE Issues New Rules Restricting Social Media Access For Children Under 15

The UAE Cabinet has issued a new resolution regulating children's use of social media platforms, introducing a minimum age requirement of 15 years and mandating stronger age-verification measures by digital platforms operating in the country.

The decision forms part of the UAE's broader strategy to enhance child digital safety and to protect children from online risks, while promoting responsible technology use and age-appropriate digital engagement.

Under the new rules, social media platforms will be required to implement mechanisms to verify users' ages and prevent access by children below the approved threshold. The resolution also outlines obligations for service providers to strengthen safeguards for younger users and support parental oversight.

The UAE joins a growing number of countries tightening controls on children's access to social media.
