Dubai Police has issued a firm warning against the rise of online begging during the Holy Month of Ramadan. They further stressed the importance of not engaging with or responding to suspicious advertisements or appeals for donations circulating on websites and social media platforms.

The Anti-Cybercrime Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation highlighted that fraudsters and organised beggars exploit the spirit of compassion and generosity that defines Ramadan in order to gain unlawful financial benefits.

Authorities urged members of the public to ensure that all donations and zakat contributions are made exclusively through officially licensed and authorised charitable organisations in the UAE.

Dubai Police added that anyone who commits begging through information technology means, whether by solicitation or any other method, will face imprisonment for up to three months and a fine of no less than Dhs 10,000, or either of the two penalties.

Public are urged to report beggars by contacting the toll free number 901, using the Police Eye service available on the Dubai Police smart application, or reporting online begging cases through the official E Crime platform.

This awareness drive forms part of the annual campaign Combat Begging, launched under the slogan 'An Aware Society Without Begging.' The campaign runs throughout Ramadan and aims to combat both individual and organised begging, promote preventive measures, and reinforce community awareness about the importance of refusing to give money to beggars outside official channels.

Dubai Police reiterated that safeguarding generosity during Ramadan is a shared responsibility and that vigilance plays a key role in protecting both donors and the wider community.
