Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the arrival of 250 new buses that comply with the European low-carbon emissions standard Euro 6.

The batch includes 40 electric buses, representing the largest and first-of-its-kind procurement in the UAE. Delivery of the remaining buses is expected to be completed by 2026.

The 12-metre-long electric buses can accommodate 70 passengers, and are equipped with a 360-degree camera system. The bus meets international safety standards and holds global certifications, operating with an advanced battery-cooling system specifically designed for the UAE’s climate.

The buses feature Euro 6–compliant, environmentally friendly engines and are classified as Class II under the United Nations vehicle classification system, allowing them to operate flexibly on both urban routes and longer inter-urban services.

The contract also includes the acquisition of 76 double-decker Volvo buses and 70 articulated Isuzu Anadolu buses to support high-density urban areas and newly developed districts, extending Dubai’s service coverage and boosting passenger capacity.

Most of the buses are equipped with a driver behaviour monitoring system that uses advanced technologies to monitor, assess, and improve driver performance, helping to raise overall safety standards. The buses also feature ergonomic seating, seat belts, and a contemporary interior design reflecting Dubai’s modern identity.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer said: "The procurement of the new buses forms part of the implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. These directives aim to deliver a sustainable and flexible public transport system that facilitates mobility for residents and visitors, enhances quality of life, strengthens Dubai’s global competitiveness as a leading destination for major international events, and supports the objectives of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040."
