Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the launch of its public Robotaxi service, marking a major step towards autonomous mobility.
Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, confirmed that WeRide’s Robotaxi vehicles via the Uber app will be available in the Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah areas. The WeRide Robotaxi booking service will be available via the Uber app by selecting the ‘Self-Driving – Autonomous’ service.
Jennifer Lee, Chief Financial Officer and Head of International Business at WeRide, said: “Our progress in Dubai is due to the autonomous driving technologies we develop, which have been tested and verified in multiple markets around the world. We are expanding rapidly in the Middle East and globally, driven by our vision to deploy tens of thousands of robotaxi vehicles by 2030. We are pleased to work with leading regulatory bodies in the region, such as the Roads and Transport Authority, which shares our ambition to develop a smart mobility system, and with Uber, whose global platform supports accelerating the adoption of driverless transportation solutions.”
Sarfraz Maredia, Head of Self-Driving at Uber, commented: “At Uber, we are building the future of transportation as our platform is the world’s largest hybrid network combining drivers and self-driving vehicles. We are delighted to see the rapid adoption of self-driving technologies in the UAE and the Middle East. This launch in Dubai confirms our continued commitment to supporting the UAE’s vision, specifically the Emirate of Dubai, for the future of mobility, by converting 25% of mobility trips to self-driving by 2030.”
The launch reinforces Dubai’s leading role in smart mobility.
