The Ministry of Education, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Abu Dhabi Sports Council, has launched the 'National Schools for Sports Talents' programme, a landmark initiative designed to nurture young athletes and strengthen school sports across the country.
The programme will turn 46 public schools into after-school sports hubs, open to students of all nationalities. Supported by more than 110 certified coaches and 16 national sports federations, it will provide structured training in 16 team and individual sports. The initiative targets athletically gifted students from both private and public schools across the nation.
So far, more than 1,000 students have been selected through a process of talent identification, ensuring promising athletes receive the support required to prepare for national and international competitions.
Beyond athletics, the initiative aims to build a culture of well-being, teamwork, and social responsibility. Promising talents will receive tailored support, from skills development to preparation for national and international competitions.
Officials highlighted the role of schools as incubators for future champions, with the initiative complementing ongoing School Sports Championship and also the government's inclusion of the Physical Education, Sports and Health Programme this academic year.
By uniting key stakeholders and investing in infrastructure, the programme seeks to create a sustainable pathway for discovering and supporting sports talent in the UAE.
