Driverless Cars Take Step Closer To Dubai Roads

Dubai Media Office

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has taken a decisive step toward the future of transport with its first permits for autonomous driving trials. RTA has granted permits to global technology leaders Baidu’s Apollo Go, WeRide, and Pony.ai to begin testing self-driving vehicles on city roads.

These trials are a key step in Dubai’s Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to convert a quarter of all journeys in the emirate into autonomous trips by 2030. Each test will be closely monitored to ensure safety and smooth integration with existing traffic systems.

The initiative not only underlines Dubai’s ambition to lead in smart mobility but also sets the stage for the introduction of autonomous taxi services in the coming years. With trials officially underway, Dubai moves closer to making driverless transport a practical reality.
