His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has unveiled plans for a monumental historical project, titled 'Majma’ Al-Tawarikh' or 'The Arabic Encyclopaedia', a comprehensive document chronicling events in the Arab world history from 550 BCE up to modern times, covering a period of over 2,500 years.
The 51-volume work, described by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan as his 'greatest project', will be officially launched during the Sharjah International Book Fair in November this year. Drawing on rare archival material from Istanbul, the French Foreign Ministry, and other European and Ottoman sources, the encyclopaedia offers an unprecedented resource for researchers, universities, and history enthusiasts.
Covering the Arabian Peninsula, Persia, Baghdad, Diriyah, and the Gulf, the collection provides detailed accounts and documents that have never been previously compiled in one place. “This work reflects a responsibility to one’s people, culture and heritage", His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan said.
Currently in its final review stage, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan confirmed he is personally reading through all 51 volumes to ensure accuracy before their release.
The upcoming encyclopaedia is expected to become a cornerstone for scholars and an enduring testament to the Arab world’s historical legacy.
