Extra Lane On Sheikh Zayed Road To Ease Congestion

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has completed a major upgrade on Sheikh Zayed Road, adding a new lane near the busy Umm Al Sheif Street exit. The 700-metre stretch has been widened from six to seven lanes, increasing road capacity by 16% and accommodating up to 14,000 vehicles per hour.

The improvement is designed to reduce evening traffic congestion caused by overlap points at the Umm Al Sheif junction, one of the busiest spots for vehicles entering Dubai from Abu Dhabi. Commuters can expect shorter travel times, smoother journeys, and improved safety with lower traffic density.

Sheikh Zayed Road is one of Dubai’s most important highways, linking key residential, commercial and financial hubs, including Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and Dubai International Financial Centre. By easing congestion in this area, the project benefits not just daily drivers, but also supports the city’s role as a global business and tourism destination.
