Smart homes across the UAE are becoming more vulnerable to cyber attacks, with the UAE Cyber Security Council (CSC) revealing that nearly 70% of devices could be compromised if not properly secured.
Everyday technologies such as voice assistants, smart TVs, lighting systems, surveillance cameras, and even baby monitors have become prime targets for hackers. The CSC warned that simple mistakes like leaving devices permanently active, using default settings, or sharing home Wi-Fi passwords with guests can open doors for cyber intruders.
In particular, baby monitors pose a worrying risk for families, as weak security settings could allow strangers to record conversations, track movement at home, or even communicate with children.
To help protect households, the CSC is urging families to adopt stronger passwords, keep devices updated, and manage all smart systems through a single central device. CSC also advises switching off voice assistants when not in use, enabling built-in privacy settings, and separating smart devices from the main Wi-Fi network.
This message comes as part of the CSC’s 'Cyber Pulse' campaign, dedicated this week to raising awareness about smart home security. With technology becoming an integral part of family life, experts stress that simple precautions can go a long way in keeping homes safe from online threats.
