Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated the upgraded Old Dubai Souq and Al Sabkha marine transport stations along Dubai Creek, marking a new milestone in the city’s marine mobility network.
The project, part of RTA’s Marine Transport Strategic Plan 2020–2030, expands shaded waiting areas by 50%, introduces retail outlets for abra riders, and enhances facilities with sustainable materials and modern lighting. The stations also comply with Dubai’s Code for People of Determination, ensuring accessibility for all passengers.
Honouring the cultural character of Dubai Creek, the upgrades preserve traditional identity while delivering practical benefits. For abra operators, a new air-conditioned rest area has been added to improve comfort and efficiency during long working hours.
Marine transport continues to play an essential role in the city, with 9.7 million journeys recorded in the first half of 2025 alone. By modernising stations, RTA aims to improve the daily commute for thousands while supporting Dubai’s broader vision of sustainable, people-friendly mobility.
