Abu Dhabi is set to play a starring role once again as Legendary Entertainment confirmed that the next chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed Dune saga will be filmed in the emirate’s Liwa desert. Known for its vast golden dunes and cinematic horizons, Liwa will again transform into the mythical desert planet of Arrakis later this year, with the movie continuing the sweeping saga of Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet.
The project, a continuation of the Academy Award-winning franchise from Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures, will receive logistical support from the Creative Media Authority Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Film Commission, with Image Nation serving as a production partner.
Abu Dhabi has become a global film-making hub, hosting more than 180 major international productions in recent years, including F1 The Movie, Mission Impossible, Star Wars, Fast and Furious, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Netflix hits such as 6 Underground and War Machine. Its mix of dramatic landscapes, state-of-the-art facilities, and strong incentives has made it a favourite for Hollywood studios and film-makers worldwide.
