Dubai Police have thwarted an international plot to steal and smuggle an exceptionally rare pink diamond worth USD 25 million, in an operation dubbed 'Pink Diamond'.
The 21.25-carat Fancy Intense pink diamond, certified for its unique clarity and rarity, was targeted by a gang who posed as wealthy buyers to deceive the owner of the diamond. Their elaborate plan included renting luxury cars, holding meetings in upscale hotels, and even hiring a diamond expert to gain credibility. Eventually, they lured the owner to a villa under the pretext of introducing him to a buyer, seised the diamond, and attempted to smuggle it abroad hidden in a small refrigerator.
Dubai Police swiftly intervened after the theft was reported via the 999 emergency number. Using advanced investigative tools, Criminal Investigation Department teams tracked and arrested three suspects of Asian nationality, recovering the diamond before it left the country.
The owner, who had imported the gem from Europe, praised the astonishing speed of the response, noting that within 24 hours, the suspects were arrested and the stone recovered.
