Traffic Upgrade In Dubai Healthcare City To Reduce Congestion By 50%

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to complete a major traffic improvement project at the Dubai Healthcare City exit to Sheikh Zayed Road by 20 July, aiming to reduce congestion by up to 50% in one of the city’s busiest traffic zones.

The upgrade involves converting the existing stop-controlled exit into a free-flow corridor, featuring a new lane that connects directly to the intersection of Oud Metha Road and Sheikh Rashid Road. The adjacent service road will also be expanded from one lane to two lanes over a 500-metre stretch, easing the flow for vehicles coming from Al Riyadh Street.

These changes are expected to double the exit’s vehicle capacity to 3,000 vehicles per hour, significantly cutting down waiting times, especially during rush hour, and making daily commutes safer and more efficient.

The area serves a dense mix of hospitals, clinics, schools, residential buildings, and offices, making traffic improvements here especially impactful for residents, families, healthcare workers and students who travel through the corridor regularly.

This project is part of a broader RTA initiative to enhance road safety and reduce bottlenecks across Dubai, aligning with the city’s vision of becoming a smart and seamlessly connected metropolis. RTA has previously implemented similar upgrades nearby, including expanding exit lanes and improving access between Umm Hurair and Oud Metha, which already reduced congestion by over 40%.
