Emirates Road Upgrade To Cut Travel Time By Upto 45%

WAM

The UAE’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced a Dhs 750 million upgrade to Emirates Road, one of the country's most vital federal highways.

Set to begin this September, the project is expected to significantly reduce travel times and improve traffic flow for thousands of daily commuters, particularly those travelling between Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah, and Dubai. It is expected to take two years to complete the project

The project includes the expansion of the Emirates Road from three to five lanes in each direction over a stretch of 25 kilometres, starting from Al Badee Interchange in Sharjah to the emirate of Umm Al Quwain. This is expected to increase road capacity by 65% and accommodate up to 9,000 vehicles per hour. Travel times along this corridor are expected to drop by up to 45%, easing pressure on one of the UAE’s busiest commuter routes.

As part of the transformation, the project will also feature the construction of six new bridges at Interchange No. 7 on Emirates Road, stretching 12.6 kilometres in total, with a combined capacity of 13,200 vehicles per hour.  Additionally, 3.4 kilometres of new collector roads will be built on either side of Emirates Road, to enhance flow and reduce bottlenecks.

According to His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, the initiative is part of a broader vision to create an integrated, future-ready road network.
