Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched 15 new temporary, air-conditioned rest areas for delivery bike riders, located at key bus and metro stations across the city.
The initiative comes as part of RTA’s efforts to improve working conditions for delivery riders, particularly during the UAE’s midday break, which runs daily from 12.30pm to 3pm until 15 September.
New rest stops have been set up at bus stations in Gold Souq, Al Satwa, Al Jafiliya, and Oud Metha, as well as at metro stations including Etisalat, Al Qusais, Emirates Towers, Insurance Market, Centrepoint, Al Furjan, Business Bay, DMCC, ADCB, and BurJuman.
The shelters provide much-needed relief from the summer heat, equipped with water dispensers, phone charging stations, and shaded bike parking. The design prioritises thermal insulation while ensuring visibility and accessibility.
In collaboration with the UAE Food Bank and Deliveroo, 7,500 free hot meals will be distributed to riders at these sites, in recognition of their essential role in the community and the growing delivery sector.
These temporary shelters build on RTA’s previous installation of 40 permanent rest areas and align with its broader road safety and quality of life goals for delivery service providers.
