Dubai’s commitment to smarter, safer roads continues with the expansion of its smart pedestrian signal expansion project, as the city's Roads and Transport Authority completes phase two of the rollout. Smart signals have now been installed at ten additional intersections across the city, bringing the total number of locations equipped with the technology to 27.

The system uses advanced thermal cameras and dynamic sensors to detect pedestrians in real time, even in low visibility. It adjusts crossing times based on actual pedestrian movement, significantly enhancing safety for vulnerable groups such as children, seniors, and People of Determination.

New smart signal locations include major intersections such as Omar Bin Al Khattab Street, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, Al Satwa Street, Salah Al Din Street, Amman Street, near labour accommodations in Al Qusais Street, and near school zones in Oud Metha Street .

The smart pedestrian technology doesn’t just improve safety, it also improves traffic efficiency by reducing unnecessary red-light delays and ensuring smoother vehicle flow.

For the UAE residents, particularly families with school-going children, elderly members, or People of Determination, this upgrade provides more confidence when navigating busy city streets. It also reflects Dubai’s broader strategy to integrate smart, human-centric solutions across all aspects of daily life.
