EV Charging Sees A Surge In Dubai

WAM

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has reported an increase in electric vehicle (EV) charging across its Green Charger network during the first quarter of 2025. The surge, marking a 23.6% increase compared to the same period last year, reflects growing momentum in Dubai’s shift toward sustainable mobility and cleaner transport alternatives.

According to a comprehensive survey done by the global company Toluna, 73% of UAE residents now prefer buying EVs, underscoring the growing public interest in environmentally friendly alternatives.

More than 39,000 EVs are currently registered in Dubai, a 5.41% rise from the same period in 2024. Over 20,900 EV owners are now signed up for the DEWA Green Charger network, up from just 14 in its launch year in 2015.

This strong growth is aligned with national goals like the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy and Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, both of which focus on reducing emissions and increasing the share of sustainable transport solutions.

The emirate now boasts a network of more than 1,100 charging points for EVs, distributed across DEWA stations and other licenced charge point operators. DEWA's charging stations are available all day at key locations, and users can locate them through DEWA’s website or its smart app.

For families and commuters in Dubai, the rise in charging infrastructure makes switching to electric vehicles more practical than ever, offering convenience, lower fuel costs, and a cleaner future.
