Dubai Introduces Flexible Summer Hours For Government Staff

The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has announced the rollout of the ‘Our Flexible Summer’ initiative across all government entities from 1 July to 12 September, following a successful pilot phase last year.

The initiative allows departments to offer employees two flexible scheduling options while maintaining a five-day working week. Under the plan, one group of employees will work eight hours Monday to Thursday, receiving Friday off entirely. A second group will work seven hours Monday to Thursday and 4.5 hours on Friday.

According to the authorities, the initiative is optional and will be implemented at the discretion of each department, with the aim of improving employee satisfaction and fostering more balanced work culture during the hot summer months.

DGHR data from last year’s pilot showed a 98% satisfaction rate among the employees, along with measurable improvements in productivity and work environment quality.
