Abu Dhabi Unveils World's First Firefighting Drone

WAM

Abu Dhabi has introduced a next-generation firefighting drone, the first of its kind in the world, designed to boost emergency response and access dangerous areas beyond the reach of human crews. Revealed at Expo 2025 in Japan, the new drone, named ‘Suhail’,  is a jet-powered, smart system developed by the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. It is engineered to handle high-risk fire emergencies with speed, precision, and advanced navigation.

The introduction of Suhail signals a major leap in firefighting innovation and public safety in the UAE, ensuring faster, safer, and smarter emergency interventions, especially in urban areas with tall buildings.

What makes Suhail stand out is its integration of laser imaging detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology, which allows the drone to see in 3D, even through smoke and low-visibility conditions. This tech enables the drone to map its surroundings, identify fire hazards and navigate confined or dangerous environments with greater situational awareness.

Designed to complement ground teams, Suhail is expected to speed up response times, improve operational safety, and reach high-rise or obstructed fire zones more effectively.
