Dubai has unveiled a major affordable housing project aimed at providing quality accommodation for skilled professionals across public and private sectors. Skilled professionals are classified as those working at professional levels in sales and service occupation or above, holding a higher education qualification from a recognised academic institution.
The initiative, announced by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, supports the city’s vision under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The first phase of the project will deliver more than 17,000 homes, offering housing to professionals of various nationalities, and improving overall living standards for Dubai’s working population. The project also aims to support urban centres that drive key economic sectors, diversify employment opportunities, and address the housing and service needs of residents across income levels.
Developed in collaboration with Dubai Municipality, the Roads and Transport Authority, and Wasl Group, the first phase of the project will span 1.46 million square metres in key locations across Me’aisem 1, Al Twar 1, Al Qusais Industrial 5 and Al Leyan 1.
The initiative is a key step in implementing Dubai’s goals to support a balanced urban development strategy that caters to the needs of a growing, diverse workforce. Commenting on the initiative, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan said, "Our goal is to offer quality housing that improves living standards for Dubai’s workforce and strengthens its status as one of the world’s best cities to live and work".
