Abu Dhabi has unveiled a major new initiative aimed at easing the burden of chronic disease treatment for those in financial need, as part of its new Life Endowment campaign. The campaign, launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, will also fund access to essential medications and mental health care.
The campaign forms part of a broader Healthcare Endowment announced in May last year by Endowments and Minors Funds Authority (Awqaf Abu Dhabi) and the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi, with a total value of Dhs 1 billion. The goal is to ensure sustainable, long-term support for vulnerable patients across the emirate.
Funds will be raised through the Emirates Red Crescent Authority and The Authority of Social Contribution Ma'an, and then strategically invested to maximise returns. These proceeds will be channelled directly into healthcare initiatives to improve patient outcomes and public health.
Officials emphasise that this collective community support can significantly ease the financial burden on underprivileged patients and offer them hope for treatment and recovery, while also reinforcing the country's ongoing commitment to inclusive, accessible healthcare for all.
The Department of Health, Abu Dhabi will oversee fund allocation to ensure the aid reaches those most in need, creating a sustainable model of care through endowment-based support.
