Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is taking cleaning to new heights, literally, with a pilot project using drones to clean the facades of Dubai Metro and Tram stations. The initiative, launched in partnership with Keolis MHI, the operator of Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram, marks a step toward smarter, safer and more sustainable city maintenance.
Instead of relying on large teams of up to fifteen people to clean a station the traditional way, the drone system cuts manpower needs by over half, operating with just eight people and reducing risks for workers who operate at dangerous heights.
The drones also use less water, making the process not just more efficient, but environmentally friendly too. While traditional cleaning methods still offer more detailed results in some areas, the RTA officials say that combining both systems could be the way forward, using drones where they work best and traditional teams where more precision is needed.
For commuters and residents, it’s a reminder that even the most mundane tasks are being reimagined in Dubai through innovation and technology.
