In a significant move to strengthen child protection services in Dubai, the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) has opened the emirate’s first residential youth shelter dedicated to boys aged 12 to 17.
The newly inaugurated Youth Hostel addresses a long-standing gap in care for male children who have faced violence, abuse, neglect or exploitation, offering them a safe, private and supportive environment. Until now, there was no dedicated facility in Dubai for boys over the age of 12 in such vulnerable circumstances.
Open to both Emiratis and residents, the shelter provides far more than just housing. Boys at the facility will receive access to education, healthcare, psychological counselling, social rehabilitation and legal support. Each child’s situation is assessed individually, followed by a tailored protection and recovery plan designed to help them heal and regain stability.
According to Her Excellency Sheikha Saeed Al Mansouri, Acting Director General of DFWAC, “The Youth Hostel represents more than just a new facility. It reflects our steadfast commitment to ensuring that no child is left to face hardship alone by establishing a comprehensive care system that provides children with safety, stability and the support they need to heal”.
The Youth Hostel is a testament to Dubai’s growing commitment to inclusive social care, ensuring no child is left without protection, regardless of gender.
