New High-Tech Scanners To Ease Travel At DXB

Travelling through Dubai International Airport (DXB) is about to get a lot easier. Passengers will soon no longer need to remove laptops, tablets, or liquids from their carry-on bags at security, thanks to new 3D scanning technology that is soon to be rolled out at Terminals 1, 2 and 3. The scanners use high-resolution 3D imaging to give security staff a clear look inside bags, without the hassle of unpacking.

This will help ease the travel at the airport by optimising security checks and cutting waiting time by allowing you to move faster without having to wait in long queues to collect electronic items from the tray. Travellers will also benefit from automated tray return systems and intelligent lane management, making security checks faster and smoother than ever.

The plan to introduce cutting-edge scanners, part of a partnership between Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects and Smiths Detection, a global leader in advanced security technologies, was announced during the Airport Show 2025 held in Dubai earlier this week. The technology, already trusted at major airports in the US and Europe, is expected to improve the overall passenger experience.

The rollout is part of Dubai’s vision for smart airport transformation, and comes as DXB continues to lead as the world’s busiest international airport. These upgrades also lay the foundation for Dubai Airports' future expansion to Al Maktoum International Airport, the mega-airport expected to redefine air travel by the end of the decade.
