Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to complete 57 major road projects by 2027, aiming to reduce journey times and ease traffic congestion. This include constructing 115 bridges and tunnels, and 226km of roads. Eleven major road corridors will be built, including eight vertical corridors and three new routes.

One of the biggest projects, the Umm Suqeim and Al Qudra Corridor, is already 50% complete. This 16km corridor, connecting the junction with Jumeirah Street to Emirates Road intersection, will reduce travel time from 46 minutes to just 11 minutes.

Another major project, the Al Fay Street Corridor, will benefit around 600,000 residents and handle 64,400 vehicles per hour. The corridor serves as an extension of Al Khail Road, running from its junction with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, to the intersection with Emirates Road

The RTA is also working on upgrading Sheikh Zayed Road, one of Dubai's busiest roads. New dynamic Salik toll gates and parking tariffs have already shown positive results, with a 9% decline in traffic volume and a 4% increase in public transport use.

Projects like these, once completed, will not only ease traffic congestion but also promote sustainable mobility. In addition to these road projects, there are several other works underway to improve cycling and pedestrian tracks and thereby promote sustainable mobility in the city.
