Imagine living in a neighbourhood where you can walk or cycle to school, work, or even grab a coffee with friends without worrying about traffic. That's exactly what the Model District Project in Al Barsha 2 aims to bring to life. This ambitious project is part of Dubai's 2040 Urban Master Plan, focusing on making the city more liveable, green and promoting sustainable mobility.
The project revolves around the '20-minute city' concept, ensuring residents have access to essential services like schools, healthcare facilities, education, recreation, childcare facilities, shopping centres and more within a 20-minute walk or bike ride, without relying on cars. To achieve this, the Model District will feature 17 kilometres of walking and cycling tracks, connecting Al Barsha 2 to popular spots like Mall of the Emirates, Al Quoz Creative Zone, Al Sufouh and Jumeirah Beach.
Three community spaces and rest stops will be created for pedestrians and cyclists to relax and recharge. Plus, over 590 trees will be planted, and public amenities like smart seating and bike rental stations will be upgraded.
This project is as much about infrastructure development as it is about enhancing the quality of life for Dubai's residents. With more options for sustainable mobility and green spaces, residents can soon enjoy more time outdoors with family and friends, while also contributing to a more sustainable environment. The Model District Project is set to make Dubai a better place to live, work, and play.
