Dubai has passed a major new public health law aimed at keeping communities safer, improving hygiene standards, and preparing better for emergencies.

Law No. 5 of 2025, issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, covers a wide range of health-related areas, including food and product safety, control of communicable diseases, emergency and crisis preparedness and more.

Key Points To Note

  • If you work in food services, healthcare, transport, or even live in shared accommodations, there are now clearer and stricter rules to follow. Businesses will be expected to maintain higher health standards, especially around food handling, pest control, and labour housing conditions.

  • If you're sick with a contagious disease, you must not travel without medical approval or risk exposing others.

  • Travelling into Dubai? You’ll need to follow hygiene rules, wear masks if required, and provide accurate health information at borders.

The law also encourages stronger teamwork between organisations like the Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Municipality, and others, making it easier to track and control public health risks through better data sharing.

According to authorities, this move reinforces Dubai’s leadership in global health standards and improves cooperation between the public and private sectors to keep residents and visitors safe.
