The UAE is taking a big step toward making life easier and more dignified for its senior citizens.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has announced the launch of ‘Barakatna’, a new initiative that puts the wellbeing of elderly residents at the heart of community support. The announcement was made at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi.
Run by the Department of Community Development Abu Dhabi, together with the Family Development Foundation and other local partners, 'Barakatna' focusses on making daily life more comfortable for senior citizens while also helping the people who care for them.
The programme offers temporary care support when family members are away, home improvements tailored for senior needs, longer housing loan terms to ease financial pressure and also flexible work options for family caregivers.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed said the initiative shows the UAE’s deep appreciation for the older generation, calling them a 'vital pillar of society' whose wisdom, experience and resilience continues to guide the younger generations and benefit the country.
