The UAE Food Bank has provided 6.2 million meals to communities in need by the third week of Ramadan, bringing it closer to its 7 million meal target. The effort is part of the ‘United in Giving’ campaign, which mobilises food donations, surplus redistribution, and awareness initiatives to combat food waste and hunger.
The campaign is structured around three key initiatives:
1. 'Blessing Baskets', which distributes over 200,000 meals daily in the form of food parcels, donations and surplus meals.
2. 'Zabeel Iftar', providing daily Iftar meals for 3,000 workers, ensuring access to nutritious meals during Ramadan.
3. 'Surplus of Good', a collaboration with Fatafeat TV to educate the public on sustainable food consumption and repurposing surplus food. Features six multilingual video episodes (Arabic, English, Amharic, Indonesian and Urdu) showcasing innovative recipes using surplus food.
The campaign also works with hotels, restaurants, corporate donors and households to collect and redistribute cooked and uncooked food to those in need, in partnership with charitable organisations and private sector entities.
With Ramadan entering its final days, the UAE Food Bank remains focused on meeting its 7 million meal target, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to charity, sustainability, and community welfare.
