CBUAE Unveils New Dhs 100 Banknote With Cutting-Edge Features

WAM

The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has announced the release of a new Dhs 100 banknote, incorporating advanced security features and sustainability-focused materials as part of the Third Issuance of the National Currency Project.

The polymer-based note aligns with the UAE’s leadership vision and sustainability goals, offering greater durability than traditional paper banknotes while integrating modern security technology to prevent counterfeiting. It started circulation on 24 March alongside existing Dhs 100 notes which remain legal tender.

Here are some of the key features of the new banknote:

  • It maintains the traditional red colour scheme for easy recognition.
  • It also features the UAE nation brand and intricate inscriptions using advanced printing techniques.
  • The front of the note showcases the Umm Al Quwain National Fort, a historical and cultural landmark reflecting the UAE’s heritage.
  • The reverse side highlights the Port of Fujairah, one of the UAE’s largest maritime hubs, and also depicts Etihad Rail.
  • The note is made of polymer, extending the lifespan by more than twice that of traditional banknotes, and supports the UAE’s Net Zero initiatives through the use of environmentally responsible materials.
  • It uses cutting-edge technology that ensures strong anti-counterfeiting measures.
  • It also includes Braille markings for the visually impaired to identify the banknote’s value.

According to CBUAE, banks and exchange houses across the UAE are required to update their cash deposit machines and counting systems to accommodate the new issuance.

Recently, CBUAE won the ‘Best New Banknote’ award at the 2023 and 2025 High Security Printing EMEA Conference for its Dhs 500 and Dhs 1,000 polymer banknotes, recognised for their security, design and sustainability. Read more here
