In a significant effort to promote road safety during Ramadan, Dubai Police has successfully distributed 119,850 Iftar meals to motorists across the city within the first ten days of the Holy Month. The initiative, under the "Ramadan Without Accidents" campaign, seeks to prevent speeding and reckless driving by ensuring that drivers can break their fast safely without feeling pressured to rush home.

The project, led by the General Department of Traffic, was conducted in collaboration with multiple entities, including Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, Civil Defence, the UAE Red Crescent, Dubai Charity Association, Dubai Digital Authority, Emirates Today newspaper, Aster Group, Med7 Pharmacy and Life Pharmacy. A team of 230 volunteers distributed the meals at key intersections across Dubai, ensuring motorists had access to food and water before Maghreb prayer.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, emphasised that the time leading up to Iftar is one of the most dangerous on the roads. Many drivers, eager to reach their destinations, engage in risky driving behaviours such as speeding, jumping red lights and illegal overtaking, all of which significantly increase the likelihood of accidents.

“Arriving late but safe is always better than not arriving at all,” he emphasised, reminding drivers that a few extra minutes of patience can save lives.
