The UAE government has approved a remote work system that allows federal employees to work from outside the country. The initiative was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, following a Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi.
According to the official statement, the new system aims to leverage global expertise for government projects, studies and specialised tasks, ultimately improving operational efficiency across federal entities.
The introduction of the remote work policy aligns with the UAE's broader efforts to modernise work structures and attract top international talent. It also reflects the government’s commitment to adapting to global workplace trends, following the success of remote work models in countries like the USA, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Taiwan and Turkey.
As more details emerge, the new system could set a precedent for future remote work policies in both the public and private sectors in the UAE. Stay tuned for more updates.
