DMT Launches ‘Your Home, Your Responsibility’ Campaign

WAM

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has launched the latest round of its awareness campaign ‘Your Home, Your Responsibility’. The campaign, in line with the aspirations of ' UAE Year of Community', aims to enhance community well-being and prevent overcrowding.

Ensuring Compliance And Safety

The campaign aims to curb the negative effects of overcrowding in residential units by ensuring compliance with Abu Dhabi’s Regulation of Occupancy of Properties and Residential Units. Alongside intensified inspections, DMT will enforce strict penalties against violators, with fines ranging from Dhs 5,000 to Dhs 500,000, and up to Dhs 1 million for repeat offences.

Dr. Saif Sultan Al Nasri, Acting Undersecretary at DMT, highlighted the importance of cooperation among landlords, tenants, and businesses to maintain safety and order, saying Through this awareness campaign, we aim to emphasise the importance that landlords and tenants adhere to the law regulating properties and residential units’ occupancy. This is to alleviate the adverse effects of property over occupancy, while safeguarding the health and safety of the emirate's residents.

Key Regulations

  • Property owners and investors must adhere to legal leasing standards.
  • Companies are urged to provide housing for lower-income workers within approved accommodations.
  • Non-compliant properties face administrative penalties, potential contract suspensions for both landlords and investors, and vehicle impoundment for illegal parking.

DMT reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing these measures through ongoing inspections, calling on property owners, real estate management firms and residents to ensure strict compliance with all regulations.
