RTA

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed traffic improvement projects at over 50 locations across the emirate in 2024, as part of its strategic plan to enhance road efficiency, ensure smoother traffic flow, and boost safety for all road users. These upgrades align with Dubai’s rapid urban development and population growth, addressing the increasing demand for better mobility solutions.

Key Highlights of the Improvements

  • Reduced travel time: Some areas have seen travel times cut by up to 60%, making daily commutes faster and more efficient.

  • Increased road capacity: Vehicle capacity on several streets has risen by 20%, easing congestion during peak hours.

  • School zone upgrades: Over 37 schools have benefited from expanded roads, additional parking and improved entrances, reducing traffic congestion by 20% during school drop-off and pick-up times.

  • Major road expansions: Key projects include the expansion of Beirut Street, improvements at the intersection of Al Khawaneej Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street. Lane expansion from Al Rebat Street to Business Bay Crossing and creation of new route linking Al Khail Road to Meydan Street.

What’s Next?

The RTA is already gearing up for 75 more traffic improvement projects in 2025, focusing on vital intersections, residential and commercial areas and additional school zones. These efforts reinforce Dubai’s commitment to becoming a global leader in infrastructure and sustainable mobility.
