His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued Law No. (1) of 2025. This law regulates the use of Dubai’s official emblems, ensuring they reflect the emirate’s values, principles and vision.
Key Highlights Of The Law:
-
Distinct emblems: The Emirate of Dubai and the Government of Dubai now have their own unique emblems, which share some design elements. Both emblems are protected under the new law. Unauthorised use of these emblems is strictly prohibited, with exceptions only for government entities and authorised organisations.
-
Strict guidelines: The emblems can only be used in specific locations, events, and documents approved by the Chairman of Dubai’s Ruler’s Court. A detailed manual, approved by the Chairman of The Executive Council, will outline how the emblems should be used.
-
Prohibited acts: Using the emblems for commercial purposes, advertising or any activity that contradicts Dubai’s values is banned. Misusing or distorting the emblems in any way is also prohibited.
-
Penalties for violations: Unauthorised use of the emblems could result in up to 5 years in prison or fines ranging from Dhs 100,000 to Dhs 500,000, or both. Individuals and entities must stop using the emblems within 30 days unless they obtain proper permission.
-
Reporting violations: The new law also stipulates that anyone aware of misuse must report it to authorities like the Department of Economy and Tourism or relevant judicial bodies.
