RTA Completes Construction Of 20 Air-Conditioned Rest Areas for Delivery Drivers

RTA

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that it has completed 20 of the 40 planned air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders at various key locations across the Emirate. This initiative is designed to improve road safety, support rider well-being, and minimise the risk of road incidents.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, said, "This initiative aims to enhance traffic safety for all road users and achieve the targeted indicators of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy with its ‘Zero Fatalities’ vision to rank Dubai the best in the world in terms of traffic safety."

The development of rest areas corresponds with the substantial expansion of the delivery sector in recent years, driven by rising public demand for goods. By the end of June 2024, Dubai had 2,535 companies offering delivery services via motorcycles, with a total of 40,088 delivery bikes in operation.

Locations Of The Rest Areas In Dubai

The sites for the rest areas were chosen based on an analysis of operational data and an assessment of areas with the highest delivery service demand, conducted in collaboration with delivery companies.

As a result, rest areas have been established in the following locations:

  • Hessa Street
  • Al Barsha Heights
  • Al Barsha
  • Al Karama
  • Riggat Al Buteen
  • Umm Suqeim (Jumeirah 3)
  • Jumeirah (Al Wasl Road)
  • The Greens
  • Dubai World Trade Centre
  • Al Rashdiya
  • Al Satwa
  • Nad Al Hamar
  • Al Nahda
  • Oud Metha
  • Arabian Ranches
  • International City
  • Business Bay
  • Dubai Marina
  • Al Jaddaf
  • Mirdif
  • Last Exit Al Khawaneej

Design Of The Rest Areas

The external design of the rest areas was planned to reduce sunlight exposure inside while maintaining good insulation and unobstructed views. Each facility includes an air-conditioned area for drivers to rest, along with snack vending machines, a water dispenser, and a mobile phone charging station. The capacity of each rest area is up to 10 people, depending on the location. Additionally, ample motorcycle parking spaces are provided adjacent to each rest area.
