Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, reported that 94 traffic accidents occurred due to lane indiscipline and dangerous driving over the past six months in 2024. Of these, 64 were caused by failing to follow mandatory lanes, while 14 accidents resulted from driving against traffic flow. Additionally, 16 accidents were due to the lane discipline issues.
Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan emphasised the serious consequences of such driving errors, which can lead to severe accidents. In 2023, there were 177 traffic accidents due to lane indiscipline and reckless driving with 113 caused by non-compliance with mandatory lanes, 28 due to driving against traffic flow, and 36 from failing to follow lane regulations.
Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan highlighted that many people suffer because drivers often underestimate the severity of their violations, mistakenly thinking they are minor. However, these actions can lead to devastating accidents involving innocent individuals.
Furthermore, Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan explained that violations like dangerous reversing, driving against the flow, and not adhering to mandatory lanes often lead to severe accidents, especially when drivers try to enter main streets improperly.
Under the Federal Traffic and Traffic Law, driving against the flow incurs a fine of Dhs 600 and six traffic points, while dangerous reversing results in a Dhs 500 fine and four points. Not adhering to mandatory lanes for light vehicles incurs a Dhs 400 fine.
