RTA Completes The Construction Of 10 Out Of 16 Truck Rest Stops

RTA

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that 10 out of 16 planned truck rest stops have been completed in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). These strategically located rest areas are spread across six major routes: Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Dubai - Hatta Road, Dubai - Al Ain Road, Jebel Ali - Lehbab Road, and Al Awir Road. Each facility covers between 5,000 and 10,000 square metres and is designed to accommodate 30 to 45 trucks and heavy vehicles, with a total operational capacity exceeding 5,000 trucks.

The truck rest stops collectively span over 75,000 square metres and provide 700 parking slots. They are equipped with essential amenities such as service facilities, prayer rooms, diesel refuelling stations, and driver rest areas, catering to the high volume of daily truck traffic.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, said, "Constructing truck rest stops enhances traffic safety by reducing truck-related incidents by 50%. These facilities improve traffic flow during truck ban periods promote traffic awareness among truck drivers, and eliminate the parking of trucks on main roads and in residential areas."

Key Benefits Of Truck Rest Stops

The rest areas are intended for truck drivers to rest during truck bans, which are designed to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety during peak commuting hours, and to address the growing demand for truck parking.

Dubai experiences over 300,000 truck trips daily, transporting about 1.5 million tonnes of goods.

Choosing locations for these rest stops involves careful planning and technical studies to optimise their effectiveness and support the transport sector.

The rest areas are strategically placed on major roads, key locations, and logistics hubs to serve the most trucks.

These sites ensure safe access and exit, reduce impact on residential areas, and are evenly distributed along highways.

Partnership With ADNOC

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, said, "The partnership with ADNOC in constructing and operating rest areas for trucks and heavy vehicles reinforces Dubai's position as a global logistics hub. This collaboration also enhances the safety and well-being of drivers by providing necessary amenities and services for their daily needs."
