The Sustainable City, Dubai's first fully sustainable community, has announced a pilot program for delivery robots in partnership with Dubai Future Labs and Lyve Global. Beginning this month, July 2024, three autonomous delivery robots, developed by Dubai Future Labs, will start operating within the Sustainable City. These robots will offer on-demand delivery services from the plaza’s restaurants and shops to residents, using a smart interface powered by Lyve Global.
Designed to be fully pedestrianised and car-free within residential areas, the Sustainable City is suited for adopting autonomous technologies. This pilot aims to improve safety, cleanliness, and cost-efficiency while reducing traffic, carbon emissions, and wait times through advanced robotic technology.
Key Features Of These Robots
Developed locally by Dubai Future Labs, these delivery robots feature:
- A fleet management system with real-time tracking.
- A backend order fulfilment and delivery operations system created by Lyve Global.
- A secured delivery compartment that can only be accessed by the customer, ensuring safe deliveries.
- The robots offer rapid delivery within the community, promising delivery in under 30 minutes. They navigate sidewalks safely and independently, locate charging stations as needed, and operate without human intervention.
This initiative supports Dubai's goal to make 25% of trips autonomous by 2030 and aims to establish Dubai as the smartest city in the world.
Khalifa Al Qama, Director of Dubai Future Labs at Dubai Future Foundation, noted that the project represents a major leap forward in the ongoing advancement of robotics technologies within Dubai's transportation, shipping, and logistics sectors. He emphasised that this initiative highlights the city's dedication to using technology to drive innovation and enhance the quality of life.
Khalifa Al Qama added, "These innovative robots have been specifically designed to ensure swift delivery of products within a remarkable time frame of just under 30 minutes, while being fully equipped to navigate their surroundings safely and efficiently, with the capability to identify charging stations, eliminating the requirement for human intervention."
Meanwhile, Hassan Hallas, Chief Executive Officer at Lyve Global, said, "We are thrilled to collaborate with Dubai Future Labs in deploying cutting-edge delivery robots in the Sustainable City, marking a significant step forward in our mission to revolutionise logistics. This initiative underscores our commitment to innovation and sustainability."
