In the first half of 2024, Sharjah Airport experienced a notable increase in passenger traffic, marking a 12.4% growth compared to the previous year. During this period, the airport welcomed over 8.3 million passengers and recorded a similar growth rate of 12.2% in aviation movements, totalling 52,702 flight operations.
Furthermore, Sharjah Airport saw significant growth in cargo handling activities, with operations increasing by 40.7% to handle a total of 97,200 tons. Additionally, sea-air cargo operations grew by 17.5%, handling a total of 7,400 tons during the same period.
His Excellency Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, stated that the continuous and strategic growth in Sharjah Airport's performance across travel, aviation, and cargo operations is strengthening its position as the top regional choice for passengers. This is attributed to the airport's commitment to delivering a secure and smooth travel experience, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, maintaining environmental sustainability standards, and providing integrated, high-quality services tailored to meet passengers' expectations and needs.
Sharjah Airport now serves over 100 international destinations through 26 airlines, including air cargo services. Recent expansions include routes to Greece and Poland operated by Air Arabia.
His Excellency Ali Salim Al Midfa also praised the commitment of administrative and technical teams across all airport facilities, ensuring round-the-clock excellence for passengers and cargo services.
This dedication supports the airport's ambition to rank among the top 5 regional airports. It aligns with ongoing efforts to expand airport capacity, aiming to accommodate 25 million passengers annually by the end of 2027.
