Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Parkin, Dubai's largest provider of paid public parking services, aimed at increasing the presence of electric vehicle (EV) Green Charger stations across multiple key sites managed by Parkin. This collaboration is part of DEWA’s continuous efforts to strengthen sustainability, promote the adoption of eco-friendly EVs, and enhance customer satisfaction by streamlining access to convenient vehicle charging facilities.
In the presence of His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, and Ahmed Bahrozyan, Chairman of Parkin, the MoU was signed by Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, and Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of Parkin.
DEWA's EV Green Charger initiative actively aligns with the National Electric Vehicles Policy and Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030. Its primary objectives include promoting electric vehicle usage and reducing carbon emissions within the transportation sector, thereby strengthening the UAE's climate action efforts.
Dubai has witnessed a notable surge in electric vehicles. As of April 2024, the electric vehicle count in Dubai has surpassed 30,000 units, with expectations of continued growth in the years ahead. This trend reflects Dubai's successful efforts in fostering the adoption of sustainable and eco-friendly transportation practices.
Furthermore, the EV Green Charger initiative has garnered over 15,000 registered customers by the conclusion of March 2024, indicating increasing interest and participation in the program.
Parkin manages more than 197,000 paid parking spots in Dubai. From 2015 until the end of March 2024, DEWA, via the EV Green Charger initiative, has advanced these objectives by supplying around 26,000 MWh of electricity for EV charging in Dubai. This has powered a combined electric vehicle distance of roughly 130 million kilometres.
