His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, is mourning the passing of Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohamed Al Nahyan who passed away on Wednesday 1 May.
Seven days of mourning have been declared as a mark of respect for Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohamed, who was the Abu Dhabi Ruler's Representative in Al Ain Region. During this period flags will fly at half mast across the country.
On the announcement, the Presidential Court issued this obituary:
“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful... With hearts faithful to God's decree and destiny, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan mourns his uncle, H.H. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, who passed away today."
Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohamed was a close adviser to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE, and was his brother-in-law through the marriage of his sister Sheikha Hessa to Sheikh Zayed.
Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohamed held a number of positions over many years and since before the founding of the UAE, including Chairman of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi.
in 2018, the road between Al Ain and Dubai was renamed in his honour.
