Dubai To Build World’s Largest Capacity Airport Terminal

Dubai is set to get the world's largest passenger terminal as His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, reviewed the strategic blueprint of the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects and approved designs for the new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport. 

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said, "Today, we approved the designs for the new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport and commencing construction of the building at a cost of Dhs 128 billion as part of Dubai Aviation Corporation's strategy."

Key Things To Know About The New Passenger Terminal

The Al Maktoum International Airport is poised to become the world's largest, with a capacity to handle up to 260 million passengers. This will surpass the current Dubai International Airport by five times. Over the next few years, all operations at Dubai International Airport will transfer to Al Maktoum. The airport will boast 400 aircraft gates and incorporate five parallel runways.

Covering an expansive area of 70 square kilometres, the airport will also have a capacity of 12 million tonnes of cargo per annum. Additionally, cutting-edge aviation technologies will debut at this terminal, marking a significant advancement in the aviation sector.

The approval for this mega project came during His Highness Sheikh Mohammed’s visit to the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, accompanied by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

Commenting on the occasion, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airlines and Group, stated, "With the continuous support and blessings of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and in keeping with his vision for the Aviation industry in Dubai, we announce the commencement of the design and construction process for the new airport at Jebel Ali. The project's first phase is expected to be ready within 10 years, with a capacity to accommodate 150 million passengers annually. The airport will provide cutting-edge technologies, passenger facilities with an unmatched level of service, and state-of-the-art aviation support facilities."
