Prepare for high-flying adventures as the UAE gets its first vertiport approved by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) partnered with GCAA and Abu Dhabi Mobility (AD Mobility), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, Abu Dhabi (DMT) to unveil the country's inaugural vertiport for eVTOLs (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft) at the DRIFTx, event. This marks a significant step in showcasing smart, autonomous, and sustainable urban mobility across air, land, and sea.

Vertiports are set to become pivotal hubs for passenger transport, pick-ups, drop-offs, and battery charging as the UAE aims to lead the way as one of the first countries globally to introduce flying vehicles for public transportation.

Constructed per the latest industry standards and regulations established by the GCAA, the temporary vertiport facility provides insight into Abu Dhabi's plan to develop one of the world's most advanced sectors for electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOLs) by 2026.

In this context, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, said, "Our collaboration with ADIO and AD Mobility underscores our commitment to fostering innovation while maintaining the highest levels of safety and regulatory compliance in the rapidly evolving field of advanced air mobility."

The Abu Dhabi vertiport represents an initial stride toward offering a flying taxi service linking the UAE's two major cities, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Stay tuned for all the updates in this space.
