Cycling enthusiasts, we have news for you! Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated new cycling tracks in Al Khawaneej and Mushrif, adding 7km to the existing 32km of tracks in these areas. This brings the total length of cycling tracks in these areas to 39km.
The first begins at the Qur'anic Park on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and continues to intersect with Al Khawaneej Street. It then transits the street via the connected pedestrian and cyclists bridge on Al Khawaneej Street to link with the current cycling track.
The second track starts at Mushrif Park, near Crocodile Park, and extends to intersect with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. From there, it runs northward along the street until it intersects Al Khawaneej Street through the pedestrian and cyclists bridge on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to join with the cycling track in Al Khawaneej.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, RTA, commented, "The cycling track in Al Khawaneej and Mushrif is part of a master plan for the expansion of cycling tracks to connect key districts of the emirate. The plan envisages extending the total length of the cycling track network from the current 544km to 1,000km by 2030. Key coastal areas, such as Jumeirah, Al Sufouh, and Marina are set to be connected to the external tracks in Al Qudra, Saih Al Salam, and Nad Al Sheba via Al Barsha, Dubai Hills, and Nad Al Sheba districts."
Speed Limit On Cycling Tracks
- Speed limits of 30kph apply to tracks exclusively for amateur sports cyclists and those shared with vehicles on safe roads.
- In urban areas, tracks designated for or shared with pedestrians have a speed limit of 20kph.
- On training tracks throughout the city, cyclists have the freedom to ride at unrestricted speeds.
These regulations emphasise the RTA's dedication to safeguarding the well-being of both pedestrians and cyclists.
